Type: Herbicide
Health hazards: Evidence of endocrine disrupting activity. Also neurotoxic effects and skin sensitiser
Environmental hazards:
- PFAS, breaks down to TFA
- Very toxic to aquatic life
- High risk of ground and surface water contamination
Exposure: Authorised in pesticides in almost all Member States AT, BE, BG, CY, CZ, DE, EE, EL, ES, FR, HU, IE, IT, LT, LU, LV, MT, NL, PL, PT, RO, SE, SI & SK.
Residue present in food: For wheat, barley and potatoes, Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) above the Level of detection (0.10mg/kg to 0.15 mg/kg per product).
Regulatory state of play: Initially approved from 2004 to 2013, prolonged for the 8th time while reassessment is ongoing. In September 2024 EFSA concluded that Flufenacet is an Endocrine Disruptor.
Main use: To control grasses and broadleaf weeds in cereals, including barley, wheat, rye and spelt, and potatoes
