Dear Member of the European Parliament,

While congratulating you for your election, we would like to draw your attention to the pressing matter concerning the export of banned and hazardous pesticides that is on the EU's agenda and needs processing further.

Loopholes in European Law allow chemical companies like Bayer and Syngenta to carry on producing hazardous pesticides for export long after they have been banned for use in the European Union to protect the environment or the health of its farmers and citizens.

On behalf of Générations Futures, Global 2000, Nature & Progrès Belgique and PAN Europe, I would like to thank you and your staff for your response 1 to our letter raising concerns about PFAS pesticides and their residues in food from 7 May 2024. We appreciate your invitation and the constructive meeting on PFAS pesticides on 11 July 2024, aimed at contributing to a high level of protection of human health and the environment. We hope you find it fruitful as well.

We have noted with great interest the plans to update the State-of-the-Science Report on EDCs, based on UNEA Resolution 5/7. This update will be much welcomed as scientific knowledge on endocrine disruptors (EDs) continues to grow and evolve, and regulatory agencies need up-to-date science to eUectively protect citizens and the environment from their harmful eUects.

Information from the press indicates that the European Commission is considering moving the competency over pesticide files and responsibilities from DG SANTE to another DG. We, the undersigned organisations working to protect citizens and biodiversity from the harmful effects of pesticides, would like to express our serious concern regarding these media reports.

PAN Europe is writing to you to urge EFSA to support the identification of flufenacet as an endocrine-disrupting (ED) substance and complete its peer review. This swift action is required to comply with the hazard-based approach of the EU Pesticide Regulation (1107/2009) and ensure a high level of protection for EU citizens, wildlife and our water resources from flufenacet.
