Call upon Members of the European Parliament to support a Strong SUR at Plenary Vote, for the future of our farmers, citizens and biodiversity
Dear Members of the European Parliament,
We write to you in view of the plenary vote on the proposal for a Regulation on the Sustainable Use of Pesticides (SUR), on 22nd of November. The SUR is of very broad public interest, and can have far-reaching impacts on the well-being and welfare of current and future generations. Sustainable farming practices and a healthy environment are the essential foundation of a prosperous future for EU citizens, ecosystems and agricultural areas.

Sehr geehrter Bundesgesundheitsminister Professor Lauterbach,
neuste Studienergebnisse weisen einen Zusammenhang von Glyphosat mit der Entstehung von Leukämie bereits in jungen Jahren nach. Mit diesem Brief möchten wir Sie daher eindringlich dazu auffordern, sich in Ihrer Fraktion gegen eine Wiedergenehmigung des Herbizidwirkstoffs Glyphosat auszusprechen und die Regierung darin zu bestärken, am 16. November 2023 gegen den Vorschlag der Kommission zu stimmen, Glyphosat für weitere zehn Jahre zu genehmigen.

In a recent communication sent to the delegations of the Council of the European Union, ahead of the Working Party on Plants and Plant Health Questions (Pesticides/Plant Protection Products) on 16th of October 2023, the Spanish Presidency shared a Steering Note and Joint comments from BG, CZ, EE, HU, IT, LV, LT, MT, PL, RO and SK. These 11 Member States deviate far from the Commission’s proposal for the Sustainable Use of Plant Protection Products, suggesting sever watering down the vital parts of the proposal related to national reduction targets and IPM.

We are writing to you ahead of the next meeting of the Working Group on the Sustainable Use of Plant Protection Products Regulation (SUR) proposal to inform you about the recently published results of an IPSOS citizens’ opinion poll regarding pesticide use, and share with you our views on reduction targets and indicators.
