Support the EU Nature Restoration Law, for a healthy, thriving future for ecosystems and citizens
Dear Prime Minister Tusk,
We hope this finds you well. We write to you to ask you to approve the EU Nature Restoration Law at the Environmental Council meeting on 17th of June.
European Commission proposal to update priority substances for surface and groundwater
Dear Water Directors,
Every Life counts - Urging EU commitment to stop EU production and exports of banned and hazardous pesticides in the next strategic agenda
Dear EU Heads of State and Government,
Ministries of Agriculture,
Ministries of Environment,
Ministries of Health
With this letter we, a coalition of Civil Society Organizations engaged in protecting human rights, human health and the environment, are asking you to give priority to the right of all human beings to live in a healthy environment and have a healthy future, inside and outside Europe.
Urgent request to include Trifluoroacetic Acid (TFA) as a priority substance under the Water Framework Directive (WD)
Dear Deputy Permanent Representatives,
We, the undersigned coalition of NGOs from the Pesticide Action Network Europe (PAN Europe), are writing to draw your attention to the concerning findings from our survey on water contamination by trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) across ten EU countries. Our report, published on May 27, 2024, highlights alarming levels of TFA, a highly persistent and widely unregulated ‘forever chemical’, in both surface and groundwater samples.
European Commission proposal to update priority substances for surface and groundwater
Dear Ambassador,
On behalf of the undersigning organisations, we are writing to you to urge you to reject proposals to further weaken the Commission’s proposal to update the lists of priority pollutants of surface and groundwater, and to use the ongoing limited update of the chemical aspects to make substantial changes to basic principles of the Water Framework Directive (WFD), thus undermining the fitness check evaluation of the WFD and resulting in delayed action on tackling water pollution.
EU Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed
Dear members of the PAFF committee,
On 22 and 23 May, you are invited to the EU Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed to discuss and/or adopt opinions on several proposals of the European Commission. In advance of this meeting, please find below PAN Europe's position on certain issues that relate to the protection of human health and the environment, for which we kindly request your particular attention.
Support an ambitious first EU Soil Law
Dear Minister,
I write to you on behalf of PAN Europe in view of the ongoing negotiations on the Commission’s proposal for a Soil Monitoring Law. Given the significant shortcomings of the Commission’s proposal, and the highly concerning weak position adopted by the Parliament on 10 April, we would like to ask you to support an ambitious position, which can effectively lay the ground for healthy soils in Europe by 2050.
EFSA’s scientific assessment of pesticides in greenhouses
Dear Guilhem de Sèze,
Regulation (EU) 1107/2009 on pesticides mentions that greenhouses are systems that prevent the release of pesticides into the environment (art.3(27)). As EFSA is aware, PAN Europe has initiated a legal procedure before the General Court of the EU on the reply from the European Commission to our Request for Internal review on the reapproval of abamectin.
Open letter by civil society on the rollback of green measures in the EU
Our society’s relationship with the nature that sustains it is fundamentally broken. Despite the growing evidence of looming ecological collapse and the alarming acceleration of the climate crisis, European governments and EU politicians are currently blocking new measures to protect nature and tearing up ones already in place.
Concerns regarding risk assessment of PFAS active substances used in pesticides and their residues in food, and meeting request
Dear Mr. Bernhard Url,
